From Fall 2012 trip.
Historic Site
Medieval tower with panoramic views of the Bosphorus Strait.
Flea Market
Turkish towels made w/ organic, weaving tradition (not machine-made). Owned by Canadian in Arasta Bazaar #135. There is a fake store nearby in the same alley!
Mosque
Majestic mosque, the largest in the city. Not as crowded as the Blue Mosque.
Historic Site
More interesting items than the Grand Bazar. Quite touristy.
Historic Site
Very touristy, but no list is complete without this.
History Museum
A full day. Be sure to also get tickets for the harems. Amazing photo ops but respect the fragility of these ancient artifacts.
Mosque
Known for it's blue dome. Ladies, wear a scarf. They have some available.
Bath House
Turkish bath with separate M/F sections. It's a good idea to get the tourist experience for women. Tip the lady a couple of lira before she scrubs you down.
History Museum
Official guided tour is just a few more $$ and is excellent! My favorite building - so much history and architecture within.
Road
Busy, fun street. Lots of street food: look for hand-squeezed pomegranate juice, roasted chestnuts, sesame pastry bread, dondurma ice cream (w/ orchid extract)
Café
THE best store for fresh Turkish delights w/ big variety of flavors. It's a little stand inside a courtyard full of restaurants. Have them pack a box for you.
Burgers
Wet burgers are a delicious late night snack.
Turkish
Mezes at Anthony Bourdain-recommended restaurant in Kadikoy. By weight.
Mall
Market that is less crowded than others.
Historic Site
Amazing ancient underground cisterns. Check out the 2 Medusa head pillars!
