winters in the hamptons are for fireplaces and movie nights, beaches and book shops; perhaps a trip to the skating rink and definitely a hike along the trails.
Greek
come for the greek dishes, stay for the occasional absurdly well-known musician and non-musicians who stop by to perform unannounced sessions.
American
better than babette's, a tiny mom and pop joint, hailed as one of the best breakfasts and brunch spots in the hamptons, though it's located in sag harbor.
Hotel
spectacular views above and happy hour by the fireplace downstairs. competition for the best spots. ignore the food, walk around the corner and eat at beacon.
Gourmet
come here for the homemade mozzarella, pastries and coffee, and then save citarella's for the upscale pantry items, but don't forget their the egg sandwiches!
Skating Rink
ice skating! have no idea if one can rent skates there. will update.
Beach
winter walks on the beach... "and stuff." dog friendly too. also, walk further west towards georgica pond for the jetty and a fairly low key surf break.
Art Gallery
arts, entertainment and education center with a theater, gallery and event space. open fridays through mondays. occasional host to artists like laurie anderson.
American
the cocktails and décor both receive raves with a fireplace in one of the rooms. dishes receive mixed reviews. emphasis on simple, fresh fare... but hamptons.
Italian
popular locals spot so best to avoid peak tourist crunch. for example, sunday night is "pasta nights" (with gluten free versions of most pastas available, fyi).
New American
formal dining room upstairs but down below, there's a bar with a bit of a speakeasy-esque vibe, and a fireplace!! apparently, their meatloaf is legendary.
Bookstore
with fewer and fewer bookstores, we must support the small independent ones that are hearty enough to stick around. still kickin, bookhampton!
Movie Theater
smalltown cinema. word on the street is that theater 6 on the second floor is better than the screening rooms.
Italian
loud whisperings state sam's is among the better pizzas in the area. more importantly, graham the owner / bartender is known to be a font of local information.
Italian
very much a locals in-spot. sit at the bar, order zucchini chips, take it all in. don't put too much faith in the food. this is more for refreshments & snacks.
Coffee Shop
there's a rumour that they have good coffee! other rumours say the shop is pretty damn cool.
Trail
three bowls of shifting dunes, like the proverbial "shifting peaks" of our modest expectations. after this, you could go further east to montauk!
