The 'you have to go see that' places.

  • Should I rent a bike?!

Depends: if you cycle every day, don't mind traffic (cars and people traffic that is) and are simply a kick ass cycler? Do it! Otherwise: if you can't bike, you won't learn it in Amsterdam all of a sudden. Golden tip: if you hear a bell - watch the f*ck out/ get out of the way. Always watch where you are walking.

  • Should I do a canal cruise?!

YES! Just do one! Prices differ, but it's worth it! We usually take the one from Rederij Plas (Damrak) or Rederij P. Kooij (Rokin). With some you also get drinks on board, some are with open boats with less people...so many to choose from!

  • Kattencafé Kopjes

    Pet Café

Coffee, cake and cats! If you love this combination you will love this place! The interior is nice and clean and perfect for felines and humans.

  • Prinseneiland

Walk around and try to find the tropical (public) garden for bonus points. This area is like the canal bit of the city, but minus all the other people and cars

  • Foam

    Art Museum

Photography museum, always worth a visit

  • Openbare Bibliotheek Amsterdam

A library, but...just go see for yourself. There is a restaurant on the top floor and: great views!

  • Museumplein

Van Gogh, Stedelijk, Rijksmuseum (get your tickets online beforehand) and one of the IamAmsterdam signs. Get something at the supermarket and sit in the gras

  • NDSM-werf (NDSM werf)

    Harbor / Marina

Take the (free) ferry towards NDSM behind the central station and visit the former ship-wharf. Lots of places for food as well: Ijkantine, Noorderlicht, pllek..

  • EYE

It's the film museum and it looks awesome. Of course there is also a museum shop (which are always great)
